Today’s Placepot Picks: Friday 30 October Newcastle Tips

Today’s Placepot picks cover Newcastle’s opening six races, beginning at 4.15pm and finishing with the 6.45pm handicap. The nine-race evening meeting takes place on Standard Tapeta.

The suggested perm includes two horses in each leg, creating 64 lines. That provides cover throughout the card without relying on a single banker.

The five-runner nursery requires particular attention. With five to seven runners, only the first two qualify for Placepot purposes. Further withdrawals could change those requirements.

Odds change throughout the day. Check the final racecards, non-runners and qualifying places before placing a bet.

Leg 1, 4.15pm: Course form and scope for improvement

Selections: Golspie and Alembic

Golspie brings a solid recent record to the opening handicap. His last five starts have produced a win, two thirds, a fourth and a second. He has already won over this course and distance, making him an appealing starting point.

Alembic offers a different profile. Sir Mark Prescott’s three-year-old has raced only four times and finished fourth on his latest appearance. He remains less exposed than most of his rivals and provides cover against the established handicapper.

Leg 2, 4.45pm: A returning winner meets an improving maiden

Selections: All You Can Be and Petula

All You Can Be improved from sixth on debut to third on his second start. Charles Hills’s gelding returns after 27 days, with Kevin Stott booked, and could progress again with that experience behind him.

Petula won her only previous race but has been absent for 450 days. Her ability is clear, although the long break makes her difficult to assess. Including both horses avoids making the outcome depend on how ready she is for her return.

Leg 3, 5.15pm: Consistency counts in the nursery

Selections: Pequenita and Lady Caroline Lamb

Pequenita has finished second on her last three starts. Andrew Balding’s filly is still seeking her first victory, but that consistency earns her a place in the perm.

Lady Caroline Lamb supplies the winning experience. She scored on her second start and carries the highest official rating in this field, although her two subsequent performances leave her with something to prove.

With only five declared runners, neither selection can afford to finish outside the first two under the current Placepot terms.

Leg 4, 5.45pm: Ennoble’s recent progress catches the eye

Selections: Ennoble and Brave Traveller

Ennoble’s recent finishing positions show steady improvement, progressing from fifth through fourth and third to second. He now makes his handicap debut from a mark of 69 for Antony Brittain.

Brave Traveller has already won over this course and distance. His recent record also includes two seconds and a third. He returns from an 83-day break with Paul Mulrennan riding and provides an alternative to the less exposed selection.

Leg 5, 6.15pm: Proven sprinters provide the cover

Selections: Germanic and Tatterstall

Germanic heads the weights from an official rating of 97. The course-and-distance winner finished third on his latest appearance, offering encouragement after two disappointing runs.

Tatterstall arrives following a victory and has also finished second and third during his last five starts. Michael Dods’s six-year-old is another proven winner at the distance, with David Allan taking the ride.

Both have credible claims, but this is a competitive handicap rather than a leg in which to assume either will qualify.

Leg 6, 6.45pm: Recent winners in the closing leg

Selections: Cosmos Raj and Poppeye

Cosmos Raj has won twice during his last five starts and finished second most recently. He is a course-and-distance winner, while Conor Whiteley’s 5lb claim reduces his allocated weight.

Poppeye also has winning form over this course and distance. He arrives after a latest-start success and carries a 5lb penalty.

Orangesandlemons and Sea Legend were marked as non-runners when the final-leg racecard was checked. Neither is included in the selections.

Unit stakeTotal cost

20p£12.80
50p£32.00

Adding selections increases the cost. Removing them reduces the stake but also narrows the coverage.
