Keratex Hoof Hardener – An Overview

Horse Health :: Everything Horse

With hoof condition an important factor of horse care, here we take a look at Keratex Hoof Hardener.

Cracked, brittle, soft or weak hooves are problematic to many horses and their owners. Whether the condition is due to poor nutrition, restricted or poor quality grazing, surfaces or a predisposition, the best way to deal with the problem is to include regular visits from the farrier, feed additional nutrition to support health horn growth, as well as applying regularly applying a hoof dressing.

There are a whole host of supplements, and even forage types that claim to help hoof condition, which indeed will help maximise the condition of new horn growth. However once the hoof is exposed to the elements, it will also need additional protection to either maintain the healthy state, or improve the poor growth that has formed.

Keratex Hoof Hardener is a favourite among horse owners. Perhaps more traditional, and extremely popular in the USA, the product is perfect for protecting the hooves no matter what the issue.

How it works

It works by cross-linking the keratins and proteins within the internal structures of the hooves, making hooves stronger from the inside out. Because it absorbs into the hooves, it will not ‘come off’ in the field, it will continue to work within the hoof whatever the weather and whatever the field conditions.

Keratex Hoof Hardener will strengthen and protect shod and unshod hooves, to restore soundness after sensitive soles and to prevent existing cracks from laddering up or across the hooves.

The product has no colour.
