At 12.30pm on Tuesday May 3rd, a 22 year old woman from County Durham sustained serious injuries, after a group of teenage thugs leapt out of the bushes and threw bottles at her horse. The women was riding along the Sustrans track near Oakey Park, Stanley, when the teenagers described as between 14 and 15, deliberately launched their attack causing the women to be thrown from her horse. As the women recovered and remounted to escape from the scene, one of the youths then ran at her horse, spooking it again and causing her to fall for the second time.
