Bath, Stratford and Ffos Las provide Thursday’s afternoon racing before Southwell’s evening card.

Horse racing today, Thursday 29 October, takes place at five meetings across Britain and Ireland, with 38 races scheduled from the 12.42pm at Bath to the 8.30pm at Southwell.

The Irish action comes from Punchestown, where races have been rearranged after Tuesday’s Flat meeting at Galway was lost to waterlogging. Elsewhere, Stratford and Ffos Las stage jumps cards, while Bath and Southwell provide Flat racing.

Odds change throughout the day. The prices in this guide were checked on Thursday morning and may no longer be available. Going descriptions, runners and race times can also change, so check the latest information before racing.

Punchestown takes over Galway’s Flat races

Thursday’s Punchestown meeting was arranged after Tuesday’s Galway card was cancelled because of waterlogging.

Horse Racing Ireland moved the remaining programme to the County Kildare course, although the two races over a mile and a half were not rescheduled. Fresh declarations were made for the rearranged meeting.

The seven-race card begins with the 1.05pm Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden over a mile. Wunderschon headed the early market at 6/4, with Petticoat Bay at 7/2 and newcomer San Juan De Lope at 9/2 when prices were checked on Thursday morning.

Wunderschon has raced four times, while Petticoat Bay finished third on her sole appearance. The different levels of experience will be part of the puzzle for those assessing the two-year-old field.

Bath: Lady Phillips and Space Bob lead novice markets

Bath opens its eight-race card with two divisions of the David Cole Memorial EBF Novice Stakes, both over a mile.

Lady Phillips was the early favourite for the 12.42pm first division at 8/13. Trained by Ralph Beckett and ridden by Hector Crouch, she finished second on her first appearance.

Space Bob also arrives after finishing runner-up on debut. He was quoted at 10/11 for the second division at 1.12pm, with Kieran Shoemark booked to ride.

The 1.42pm nursery handicap brings Kaito back to the course and distance over which he won on heavy ground. George Boughey’s two-year-old was quoted at 13/8 alongside Ground Force in the morning market.

With the going described as heavy, soft in places, proven form on testing ground could be useful across the afternoon.

Stratford: Gatineau Park heads handicap chase

The 3.20pm Happy Birthday Penny Tyacke Handicap Chase is the leading contest on Stratford’s seven-race jumps card.

Gatineau Park was quoted at 5/2 in the early market for the Class 3 race over two miles and three furlongs. Tom Bellamy’s mount finished last season with a win and has been given an official rating of 130.

Mr Hope Street was available at 9/2, with Jipcot at 11/2. Ten runners were listed when the morning racecard was checked.

Earlier, the 1.50pm and 2.20pm races are divisions of an EBF National Hunt novices’ hurdle. The card concludes at 4.20pm with a junior National Hunt Flat race for fillies.

Ffos Las: different ground on hurdle and chase courses

Racegoers at Ffos Las should note the separate going reports. The chase course was described as good, while the ground for the hurdle races was heavy, soft in places. The Flat track is being used for the hurdle and bumper races.

The final race, the 4.30pm Dai Walters Trophy Handicap Chase, is a Class 3 contest over approximately two miles and three furlongs.

Wreckless Eric was quoted at 11/4 in the early market, with Leader In The Park at 3/1 and Filanderer at 4/1. Six horses were listed for the race.

Southwell: Asuka heads evening handicap

Southwell’s all-weather meeting starts at 4.25pm and runs through until 8.30pm. The nine-race card includes the 7.00pm AW Trials Day Handicap, a Class 3 race over seven furlongs.

Asuka was the early market leader at 7/2, ahead of First Legion at 5/1 and Khaleejy at 13/2. Asuka has won twice in his last four starts and is set to be ridden by P. J. McDonald.

The opening mile handicap also attracted support for Anthropologist, who was quoted at 6/4 after winning on his latest start.
