Today’s Placepot picks focus on Southwell’s evening all-weather meeting, where the Tote is offering a £50,000 guaranteed Placepot pool.

Our proposed perm contains 81 lines and two bankers. Sin City is the sole selection in the second leg, while Distillate is trusted to continue her excellent course-and-distance form in leg four.

Today’s Placepot picks for Southwell
Leg 1, 4.25 Southwell
Selections: Anthropologist, Monsieur Bondy and Timely Affair
The opening mile handicap is competitive enough to justify three selections.
Anthropologist carries a penalty after winning over seven furlongs at Southwell on Saturday. He travelled strongly on that occasion and appeared to have more in hand than the final margin suggested. The return to a mile should not inconvenience him.
Monsieur Bondy won on his first visit to Southwell earlier this month. He must compete from a higher mark, but that course success gives him an important place in the perm.
Timely Affair has won three times at Southwell, including twice during her recent run of form. She also finished second at Kempton after failing to break cleanly, so another prominent showing is possible.
Leg 2, 5.00 Southwell
Banker: Sin City
Sin City is the first of today’s two Placepot bankers.
He made a successful debut on the all-weather before finishing fifth in a stronger conditions race at Kempton. That contest represented a significant rise in class, and the experience should help on his return.
Sin City has an official rating of 89, giving him the strongest established form in this novice field. He carries a penalty for his debut victory but should remain difficult to keep out of the places.
Beaujon is open to improvement following an encouraging first run. However, Sin City’s proven all-weather form makes him the more dependable Placepot selection.
Leg 3, 5.30 Southwell
Selections: From Me To You, Son Of Light and Perfect Hope
From Me To You arrives under a penalty after winning a Wolverhampton nursery last week. He had to work for that success but responded well when challenged. Ben Pollard’s 7lb claim helps offset the additional weight.
Son Of Light makes his nursery debut after finishing in the frame on both previous starts. His opening handicap mark may leave room for improvement, although stall 12 is not ideal.
Perfect Hope has finished second in her last two nurseries on Tapeta. She has gone close without winning, but that consistency is valuable when looking for a placed horse. A first-time tongue-tie may also help her find a little more.
Leg 4, 6.00 Southwell
Banker: Distillate
Distillate has won her last two races over this course and distance and is the strongest banker on today’s card.
She returned to Southwell earlier this month and secured a narrow victory before following up more decisively ten days later. That latest success came in an apprentice handicap, which means she can compete here without a penalty.
Distillate is now 2lb lower than for that comfortable victory. Although her winning run must end at some point, her current mark and proven course form make her the clear choice for the fourth leg.
Leg 5, 6.30 Southwell
Selections: Mini Mac, Coulsty Exchange and Zabriskie Point
Mini Mac won at Wolverhampton on Monday and makes a quick return under a penalty. He finished strongly over six furlongs and should appreciate the step back up to seven.
Coulsty Exchange remains lightly raced compared with most of this field. He has reached the places twice from three starts and could have more to offer as he gains experience.
Zabriskie Point has been running consistently without winning. He was third at Wolverhampton before finishing fifth at Kempton and is partnered by Sean Levey. That recent form gives him a reasonable chance of making the frame.
Leg 6, 7.00 Southwell
Selections: Asuka, First Legion and Khaleejy
The final leg is a competitive Class 3 handicap featuring several horses with convincing all-weather form.
Asuka won his first two starts after returning from a long absence. He was subsequently placed at Newmarket and Ascot and now returns to an artificial surface with P J McDonald riding.
First Legion won at Ascot in September before missing by only a nose at the same course on his latest appearance. He has been raised another 3lb, but the return to seven furlongs should suit.
Khaleejy makes his handicap debut after winning over seven furlongs and finishing second at Kempton. He has raced only three times, leaving more scope for improvement than many of his experienced rivals.
