Emily Hobson-Pratt is Stubbing Court Training Ltd’s Apprentice of the Year 2022!

Emily Hobson-Pratt has been announced as the 2022 Stubbing Court Training Apprentice of the Year. The 26-year-old, who works for Moorhouse Equestrian Centre, Doncaster, was awarded the title by judges Chris Bartle and Anna Goodley after the final judging on 4 July at Pickering Grange EC in Leicestershire.

Emily, who should shortly complete her Level 3 Apprenticeship, narrowly saw off stiff competition from Maya Foster-Mills.

Anna Goodley, from sponsors Lycetts, said:

Lycetts were delighted to once again sponsor SCT’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’ Award. Our congratulations to both the winner, Emily, but also to a very strong runner-up, Maya. With candidates of such quality, the future of the horse world is in safe hands. Their passion and commitment to high standards shone through as ambassadors for the equine industry. Our congratulations to SCT for providing the framework for such talent to flourish.”

Emily explained her path to an SCT Apprenticeship, saying:

I’ve always worked with horses, but mostly on the riding side. I decided my goal was to go into yard management and coaching, so chose to do an apprenticeship as I knew I would receive a really broad, all-round training with excellent and committed back-up.

For me, apprenticeships are a great mixture of practical learning – experience is the best way to learn – and very good online resources that allow you to be in control of your learning, to an extent, and do it in the way and in hours that suit you and your set-up.”

Emily also took part in the exclusive Masterclass for SCT apprentices and employers that took place at Pickering Grange that day with senior British eventing team coach Chris Bartle.

It was amazing – the Masterclasses and the access SCT gives us to learn from the best people in the horse world is fantastic,”

she said.

Chris, who is due to give another SCT Masterclass in November, said:

It was an enjoyable and productive day with enthusiastic riders who showed talent and a clear understanding and improvement throughout the day.”
