Cornbury House Horse Trials announces increased prize-money
Riders at Cornbury House Horse Trials in Oxfordshire (8-11 September) will be further rewarded for success at this much-praised event, now in its third year, with a considerable boost to its prize-money.
There will be a Leading Rider prize of £2,500 plus a perpetual trophy for the person who accumulates the most points across all of the event’s international and national classes during the event, which runs at CCI3*-S, CCI2*-S, intermediate and novice levels.
The event. has quickly become a leading proving ground for young talent, both equine and human, and the three best-placed seven-year-old horses in the CCI3*-S classes will win £1,500, £750 and £500 respectively. This is in addition to the existing prize-fund of £7,000 per section. In the CCI2*-S sections, the three highest-placed six-year-old horses will take home £1,000, £750 and £500 respectively in addition to the established prize-fund of £3,000.
Also, The Howden Way youth classes, for under-21s at CCI3*-S level and the CCI2*-S National Junior Championships, which take place at Cornbury House for the first time in 2022, will receive prize-money commensurate with their senior counterparts – a very rare occurrence in the sport of eventing.
All class winners will also receive hand-engraved glass storm lanterns as trophies.

I have always been clear that I have a particular passion for encouraging and supporting the next generation of talented horses and riders. We have the best professional event riders in the world here in Britain, and it is essential that they are financially rewarded for their hard work, dedication and success.
We have been very lucky in the first two runnings of our wonderful event that many of our star riders have chosen to run their best horses at Cornbury, and I hope the chance to win more prize-money – for themselves and for their owners – will reinforce that. We do everything we can to produce the best possible conditions for the horses, riders, owners and supporters, and once again we have made improvements that I hope will be popular. These include a great deal of work on the warm-up areas for the dressage phase, and some tweaks to the layout of the site.
This is the first year since we began – under tight Covid restrictions in 2020 – that we are really able to welcome the public to Cornbury to enjoy the spectacular setting and terrific sport. We hope that spectators will create the sort of atmosphere that will benefit our exciting young horses and riders in their future international careers.”
