In a social media post William Fox-Pitt gushed with emotion, with thanks to his support;
I am hugely honoured to receive this MBE. I have been so lucky to have been involved with wonderful horses and people throughout my life that have allowed me to my passion a successful career, and this wouldn’t have been possible without them. I really am very grateful and feel very humbled to be recognised in this way.”
Whilst Fox-Pitt has achieved many successes over his career, he has also suffered the dangers of the sport. In 2015, Fox-Pitt suffered a fall during competing leaving him in a coma for two weeks. After a miraculous recovery, however still suffering from blindness and double-vision, he was able to clinch a spot on the Olympic Team for Rio 2016 and place 12th individually, on ride Chill Morning.
In 2024, Fox-Pitt announced his retirement from top-level competition after his ride at Badminton Horse Trials.
