Team GB Eventers Predicted to Top Tokyo 2020 Leaderboard

Team GB eventers are predicted to top the Tokyo 2020 leaderboard, as EquiRatings released their official statistics for this year’s Games.

According to the Equirating’s Eventing Prediction Centre, all three British Eventing combinations will make the top five. Further they all have at least a 13% chance of claiming gold.

The statistical model uses SAP predictive technology to forecast the results of major eventing competitions before and during the event. The model simulates events 10,000 times pre-competition and after each phase. This updates its projected leaderboard and the estimated probability of victory, podium or top-10 finish for each combination, factoring in past performance at events and in the different phases.

Currently, the EquiRating statistics predict Oliver Townend and Ballaghmor Class have the highest chance of an individual win out of the three Brits, with a 15% chance. Laura Collett and London 52, and Tom McEwen with Toledo De Kerser both have a 13% chance of an individual gold. However, with leading statistics, reigning champion and Team Germany rider, Micheal Jung takes the top spot in for predicted gold with a 26% chance.

Medal contention for silver and bronze is looking even better for the three British eventing combinations. Oliver has been predicted a 35% chance of a medal, Tom a 34% chance, and Laura a 29% chance.

Other predictions state that German rider, Julia Krajewski with Amande De B’neville have an 8% chance of gold and a 23% of a medal overall. Rio 2016 bronze medalist and US rider, Phillip Dutton with Z has been predicted a 5%  win probability and 19% chance of a medal.

EquiRatings will soon release its team predictions. With only three riders having counting scores toward the team placings, it means fans can expect an Olympic Games different to any other.
