In this article*, we look at the rather bright Shires FlyGuard Pro Air Motion Fly Mask With Ears & Fringe and consider various points to see whether it’ll be a suitable option for your horse this summer.
About the Mask
The Shires Fine Mesh FlyGuard Mask with nose fringe is an excellent hybrid model, where modern meets a golden oldie style, with the horse benefiting from the best of both worlds.
The silver, black and orange mask provides superior protection and a reduction from irritating biting bugs with the fine mesh veil and fabric ears. We’ve also seen the mask in other colours such as black and grey, alongside turquoise and grey. Some of them have more than one strap under the cheekbone and therefore may have older variations.
Designed to provide a comfortable fit, the Fly Mask boasts a super breathable fabric with fleece-lined elasticated edges to prevent rubbing and a close contact fit with the stretchy fabric.
Not only is it designed with the horse’s comfort in mind, but the additional UV protection (up to 70%), 3D air mesh fabric and durability (ripstop material over the eye area), make it an excellent fit for this summer.
What we like about the Shires FlyGuard Pro Air Motion Fly Mask
We love the integrated traditional fly fringe over the nose and the super vibrant colours this mask boasts as should it come off, it’ll make it easier to see in a field.
What we question
We may, however, question whether the strap under the cheekbone to secure is robust enough for those horses and ponies that like to remove fly masks on their own.
