The poor young horse was on the side of the road on Between Rivers Lane and had been tied to a nearby fence with thin blue rope by her dark blue head collar.

It is thought she had been neglected while she was alive as she was extremely thin.

Insp Claire Mitchell said: “This is such an upsetting case. This poor horse deserved to be treated better than this. It is horrifying that she has just been dumped like rubbish. It is so incredibly callous.

“She was so thin there is no doubt that she was severely neglected while she was alive. She was so emaciated you could see every bone in her body. It is awful to even think of the amount of suffering she must’ve gone through in her short life. It is utterly heartbreaking.”

She added: “We do not know if this horse was still alive when she was dumped there – but we do know she had not been cared for.

“We would urge anyone who might’ve seen anything or know where she has come from to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information about what happened to the horse is asked to contact the inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
