Registration Opens For BEF’s Podium Potential Pathway Programme
Registration is now open for the British Equestrian Federation’s World Class Programme Podium Potential Pathway 2019-2021 squad.
The squad is funded by the UK Sport National Lottery and Sport England and is the first stage of the BEF’s Equestrian Performance Pathway.
Recent revision of the Equestrian Performance Pathway saw the Podium Potential Pathway Programme replace the previous Excel Talent Programme.
Applications for the squad are open to under 25’s as the programme “looks to identify, support and develop athletes who demonstrate the potential to progress to Podium Potential in the future.”
The BEF also assures that the redevelopment, of the World Class Programme pathway, will guarantee “the best support is provided to both human and equine athletes to promote their continued development at every level”, enabling future Team GBR medal success.
The Podium Potential Pathway is just one of three levels the BEF’s World Class Programme offers, providing the selected riders with access the “top equestrian specialists”. Riders on the pathways will have access to international coaches, HSSM practitioners, such as physiotherapists and psychologists, and ESSM practitioners, such as vets, farriers and saddlers.
David Hamer, the BEF’s Head of Performance Pathways, explains;
“This very important performance foundation stage of the pathway will help the younger athletes develop the necessary skills and gain knowledge which in the future will hopefully help them to achieve selection onto a British senior team. Athletes who meet the criteria will have the opportunity to benefit from top equestrian specialists and have a framework of support to further develop and progress them on their journey as an athlete.”
To be considered for the Podium Potential Pathway, athletes should meet the minimum performance standards, criteria being dependant on discipline.
Visit the Team GBR website for registration forms.
Application close 28th September 2018.
