Our Tester…

Name: Lady

Breed: Welsh-section D

Hoof Condition: No shoes. Strong hoof wall, but soft soles which can be sensitive on hard, uneven ground.

First Impressions…

Bright, stylish packaging, which is completely on brand! Pommel’s principles were truly refreshing, striving on being cruelty-free, against testing on animals, with 100% natural ingredient. As a balm, we loved that Leg Up would mean no more mess when applying hoof conditioner. We also thought that it may mean it would be more durable during the winter months?

Performance

Leg Up had an incredible smell, as we opened the tub. A fusion and shea and tea-tree – it was luxurious to use!

After washing and drying Lady’s feet, we used a spare face brush we had to hand to apply a thin layer onto each hoof. Immediately, Lady’s hooves looked more nourished, with a subtle, hydrated sheen. It didn’t give the ‘wet-look’ which comes with oils but stayed put, instead of running off or being easily brushed off like most hoof oils.

We used Leg Up everyday, before and after turnout, for a two-week period. Overnight, the balm did not seem to budge. After time in the field, where this balm was really put to the test, it seemed to create a protected barrier, will mud easily sliding away before another quick reapplication. Over our two-week trial Lady’s hooves were looking more nourished than ever!

Disadvantages…

Leg Up is pricier than other hoof balms and oils on the market. But, for durability and brand ethics, we definitely think it is worth it! However, postage is FREE with any orders over £14.99 from www.pommel.co.uk, which more than makes up for it!

You will need a spare brush for application as this product does not come an applicator. As a balm, it may not be smart enough to finish off a ‘show-look’, but it is great for daily hoof maintenance.

Verdict…

Leg Up is a fantastic everyday hoof balm, which adds a dash of luxury into rotuine! With great durability and instant nourishment, we think Leg Up has become our new, year-round must have!
