Kingsmead EC to Hold Special Event for Disabled Access Day

Surry based Kingsmead Equestrian Centre will be celebrating Disabled Access Day by holding a special event which will take place on March 16, 2019.  Launched in 2015, Disabled Access Day offers disabled people opportunities to try something new.

Kingsmead, an Accessibility Mark centre has joined forces with Disabled Access Day to encourage more disabled people to consider taking part in horse riding activities and learn about the benefits of spending time with horses.

Free riding taster sessions will also be available to children aged between six and 12 years, with bookings being taken for older children, those with more complex needs and adults by separate arrangements.

The day will also include yard tours to view the facilities, with the opportunity to meet the equine residents, before a talk to highlight the services available. A hot topic on the agenda will discussion around the The Equine Assisted Learning programme, designed to support lifelong learning and personal development.

The event will start at 2pm and run until 4pm, with booking essential for riding as places will be limited, by contacting the office on 02086 570832, no later than Friday, March 15. Riders must be able to mount from a mounting with assistance to take part (please note some riders need more specialist attention which may not be available on the day).

Light refreshments will be available and any advance bookings made on the day will receive a £5 discount on future riding.

Kingsmead owner Fiona Tothill said:

Kingsmead Equestrian Centre has so much to offer the disabled rider, so we are excited to be joining forces with Disabled Access Day to hopefully encourage a few more people to take up horse riding.

We welcome anyone to come along and have a chat to find out if riding could benefit them, both physically and mentally.”

Accessibility Mark status is awarded to a riding centre that has been approved by RDA following training and assessment. The close link with the RDA means that they offer continuous support to the establishment to ensure they provide a first class experience that aims to be hugely beneficial.
