Channel 4 has announced it will air an exclusive highlights programme of the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) 2025, capturing the spirit and spectacle of one of the most prestigious events on the equestrian calendar.
The 90-minute special, produced by Welsh production company Carlam Ltd, will offer viewers a unique behind-the-scenes look at HOYS, following the build-up, emotional moments, and fierce competition that unfold in the “arena of dreams”.
Due to be broadcast two weeks after the event, the programme promises unprecedented access to the early-morning preparations, the riders’ journeys, and the electric atmosphere that defines the show.
The presenting team includes well-known broadcaster Matt Baker, equestrian influencer Gemma Owen, and international para dressage rider Tegan Vincent-Cooke – a trio set to bring charm, insight and passion to the screen as they guide audiences through the highlights.
Emma Wardell, Event Director for HOYS, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Channel 4 to bring the magic of Horse of the Year Show to a national audience. HOYS is the pinnacle of the equestrian calendar – not just a competition, but a celebration of excellence, heritage, and passion. This programme will give viewers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the dedication and joy that define HOYS.”
Joe Turner-Blake, Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor for Sport, added:
“Hold your horses. There is no more ardent and committed group than the equine community, so it’s brilliant to be broadcasting Horse of the Year for everybody’s enjoyment. We’re chomping at the bit to saddle up with Matt, Gemma and Tegan – but the stars of the show, sorry, the mane attraction, will of course be the horses themselves.”
Carlam Ltd – based in West Wales – will helm the production. Euros Llŷr Morgan, CEO of Carlam, and Executive Producer Amanda Harries, expressed their excitement:
“As passionate equestrians, we are thrilled that Carlam – Welsh for ‘canter’ – will be at this year’s Horse of the Year Show. We’re proud to be producing the highlights programme for Channel 4, bringing the excitement and elegance of the 2025 show to audiences across the UK. At Carlam, we’re deeply committed to the equestrian community, and we can’t wait to share the magic of this iconic event.”
HOYS remains one of the most cherished fixtures in the equestrian world, drawing competitors and fans from across the UK and beyond. With Channel 4’s involvement, this year’s show will reach an even broader audience, offering equestrian enthusiasts and newcomers alike a chance to experience the event’s unique blend of sporting excellence and emotional storytelling.
Further broadcast details will be announced closer to the time.
