Part of the equine feed division of I’Anson Bros Limited based in Masham, British Horse Feeds prides themselves on their three great products; Speedi-Beet, Fibre-Beet and Cooked Linseed.
The brand is most famous for its flagship product, Speedi-Beet, a highly nutritious, quick soaking beet pulp feed with no added molasses, making it 95% sugar-free.
This product revolutionized how the industry fed beet pulp, made from using only the best quality British beet pulp, Speedi-Beet is subjected to the British Horse Feeds patented cooking process to produce a unique feed which is unlike any other horse beet.
It contains a high proportion of soluble fibre, mostly pectins, which means its fibre is more easily digested than forage, e.g. hay. This makes it a great source of non-heating, slow release energy.
This versatile feed can be fed in small amounts to overweight horses as a carrier for a multivitamin and mineral supplement, or in larger quantities to a poor doer for weight gain, or to a working horse for energy.
Keeping horses hydrated is important and feeding Speedi-Beet is an easy way to get fluids in to our horses because it expands and holds five times its weight of water after soaking.
For horses or ponies that struggle with laminitis, feeding Speedi-Beet before turnout can help stabilise the ingestion of sugars present in spring grass and is low in sugar and starch free.
The product is also a BETA-approved soaked fibre, suitable for equines prone to gastric ulcers, as part of a balanced diet.
Then came Fibre-Beet, a carefully designed blend of highly degradable fibre sources including all the benefits of the original Speedi-Beet product and added alfalfa. This provides optimum fermentation patterns to help keep the digestive system healthy, for optimum condition and to provide quality protein for muscle tone and function.
High levels of pectins and surfactants can help maintain the mucus linings of the gut whilst the structural fibre absorbs excess stomach acid – helping combat the conditions for ulceration and other stress symptoms.
Fibre-Beet is fermented to produce high levels of butyric acid, which aids the function of the cells of the gut wall, and low levels of lactic acid, making it an ideal alkaline feed. With an effective degradability 50% higher than forage fibre, Fibre-Beet can improve energy intake whilst keeping dietary fibre levels at an optimum.
Fibre-Beet also provides a good range of minerals, trace elements and amino acids and it has a low sugar content.
Ideal for horses prone to digestive upsets and very palatable for fussy eaters, Fibre-Beet also has added biotin for hoof quality. Like Speedi-Beet, Fibre-Beet also is a BETA-approved soaked fibre, so it can be fed to equines prone to gastric ulcers, as part of a balanced diet.
Both mash products are fast and easy to prepare, with Speedi-Beet only taking just 10 minutes with cold water and 5 minutes with warm water, and Fibre-Beet taking 45 minutes to be ready using cold water, and again time is reduced when using warm water, only taking 15 minutes.
Recently British Horse Feeds unveiled their new product, Cooked Linseed.
The Cooked Linseed is 100% whole linseed that has been cooked and micronised to provide the highest quality nutrition. This optimises the digestibility and bioavailability of its nutrients for your horse or pony.
Linseed is an ideal addition to any feeding regime as it is a key provider for protein and oil to help benefit performance, condition, skin and coat and general health.
For adding topline and supporting muscle activity, the quality protein, with an ideal amino acid profile, contained within Cooked Linseed can help as well as being a great source of slow release energy.
High levels of omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids give a real shine to coat condition.
British Horse Feeds Cooked Linseed also provides a good source of vitamins, trace elements and contains natural antioxidants.
The product is achieved by simply using heat, moisture and grinding to ensure improved nutrient availability, so there are no hidden chemicals and it can be fed straight from the bag.
Not forgetting the brands sister company, The Golden Paste Company, turmeric supplement specialists for humans, horses, dogs, cats and other animals.
The brand works hard in highlighting the health benefits of turmeric, and created the first pelleted turmeric supplement for horses.TurmerAid™, the pelleted turmeric supplement for horses supports healthy joints, aids digestion and promotes a healthy skin and coat.
Carefully formulated with key ingredients for maximum absorption and bio-availability, the complete turmeric pellet contains a minimum 5.1% curcumin, yucca, black pepper, linseed and apple cider vinegar.
The yucca is added to aid digestion and have positive effects on the microflora that occur naturally in the horse’s gut. In addition to aiding digestion, TurmerAid™ also supports the body’s natural inflammation process and the linseed oil promotes a healthy skin and coat.
Instantly recognisable in its bright orange tub, which is fully recyclable, TurmerAid™ is ideal for use over the winter months when many horses and ponies require additional support during the cold and damp weather.
The only pelleted turmeric supplement on the market, TurmerAid™ remains effective as the ingredients are evenly distributed in each pellet and are only released when the horse bites into them. There is no risk of individual ingredients dissipating inside the tub over time and the horse subsequently receiving an unbalanced measure.
