British Eventing Announce New Foundation Skills Academy Programme

British Eventing have launched their brand new Foundation Skills Academy Programme.

The new programme, funded by Sport England, has been designed to identify, support and develop riders demonstrating the potential to progress in eventing.

British Eventing has began inviting applications for the new programme, seeking riders at the grassroots levels of eventing, showing the natural ability to excel in the sport. The programme will aim to develop riders to progress into the BEF Excel Programme, and accelerate their chances for one day competing at Senior International level.

The Foundation Skills Academy Programme is a 12- month opportunity open to those aged between 14-18 years old. Two, 2-day camps, supplying expert advice and training to the lucky individuals, will be included within the programme. Riders will also have access to industry specialists from areas of farriery, saddlery, biomechanics, nutrition, veterinary, sport psychology and rider strength and conditioning.

Along with the announcement, Sean Maxwell, British Eventing’s Training and Education Manager commented;

This is an amazing opportunity for young event riders; the training and support covers many of the key areas required by the human and equine athlete today and will help develop combinations to be successful in the future.”

Applicants must be regularly engaging with British Eventing’s 12-21 training and be placed in the top eight of three BE100 events, within the 2017/2018 period.

Applications open 8th October 2018 and will close 29th October 2018. For more details, see the British Eventing website.
