Blair Castle International Horse Trials Issue 2020 Event Update
Organisers of the Land Rover Blair Castle International Horse Trials have issued an event update following a comprehensive risk assessment to health associated with mass gatherings and the coronavirus pandemic. The news published was ‘with great regret’ that the 2020 event will not go ahead.
The Scottish based British Eventing fixture takes place in August each year and attracts around 45,000 visitors across four days. The event acts as a vital part of the local economy. However, organisers have said the decision was made with priority given to the health risks posed to everyone involved while the coronavirus pandemic persists.
Consideration was given to holding various competition elements. However, the team felt it was important to host an inclusive event, and with such changes made, it wouldn’t have felt right for some parts to go ahead and for others to not.
Sarah Troughton, Head Trustee, Atholl Estates, said:
It is with a heavy heart we announce the cancellation of the Land Rover Blair Castle International Horse Trials 2020. It was an unavoidable decision, taken with the safety of the local community, all the riders, and the many helpers and volunteers uppermost in our minds. The 2021 event will be all the more special, and we look forward to seeing you then.”
Blair Castle boasts an exciting history of equestrian activity, starting in 1989 as a National CCN 2 star. Since then, the base has run a wide variety of events, attracting a selection of the world’s best eventers including Piggy French, Chris Burton, Oliver Townend, Michael Jung and Tim Price. Fixtures have included the FEI European Championships, a variety of CIC and CCI level events, grassroots competition and most recently has been a part of the Event Rider Master series.
The Land Rover Blair Castle International Horse Trial will be back between 26th – 29th August 2021.
