Waterproof horse riding trousers are a necessity not only for use in the saddle, but down the stables too. They can mean the difference between getting to work clean, or covered in mud. They are versatile and so handy to have, and more often than not affordable. In most cases, you can even ride in a pair of waterproof horse riding trousers, or wear them over a pair of white or cream breaches when at a competition.
Ideally, you’ll need them to be lightweight, waterproof and breathable, although a heavier pair with lining can be used during the winter. An elasticated waist works well, especially when you’ve got another pair of breaches or riding leggings underneath. Loose bottoms with zips are excellent for adjustability should you choose to use with a pair of riding boots, for those who don’t, a standard elasticated bottom will help reduce mud splatter around the ankle. Pockets are another area to consider, whether you want them or not, a pair of waterproof pants with zipped pockets are a great way to keep keys and other items safe when taking them on and off.
With so many uses to mention, here’s a round up of the best waterproof trousers, priced from lowest to highest, that you can purchase for use when at the yard and in the saddle.
