2021 Cotswold Cup Championships to be Held at Gatcombe Park

Organisers of the 2021 Cotswold Cup Championships have announced the fixture will be held at Gatcombe Park on the 11th and 12th September 2021. The event offers an exciting, never seen before opportunity, for grassroots eventers to compete at the home of HRH The Princess Royal and Admiral Sir Tim Laurence. The winners of each of the Cotswold Cup Championship classes will be awarded a minimum prize of £1,000.

The Festival of British Eventing was established at Gatcombe in 1984, however the Park has never hosted an unaffiliated event – until now.

I am delighted that there will be horse trials over this part of the estate again, and especially to support this enterprising new grassroots competition,”

the Princess said.

I hope competitors will be inspired by the setting and that it will give them something fun and challenging to aim at as sport gets going again after lockdown.”

The Cotswold Cup is a new eventing series for 2021 providing a collection of “big-occasion” unaffiliated events across the Cotswolds culminating in a thrilling and prestigious Championship with big money prizes. The series was created by a small group of event organisers and hosts who wanted to offer unaffiliated competitors the same level of quality as those who affiliate, with an exciting, tangible, end-of-season goal and prize-pot to match.

The recent addition of a 70cm class with qualifiers to be held at Waverton House (1) and Oxstalls (1) & (2) and a Championship class at Waverton House (2) further extends the possibility for unaffiliated riders to enjoy competing in “big-event” atmospheres.

The main Championship classes will be at 80cm, 90cm & 100cm, with an under-18 section for each. Generous prize money is on offer for those who finish within the placings, as well as prizes-in-kind including rugs, sashes and the chance to win a much-coveted silver cup.

The under-18s will be competing for training bursaries with elite event riders Laura Collett, Harry Meade and Tom McEwen who have all signed up to teach the budding stars.
