The Grand National is far and away the UK’s favourite horse race and one of the country’s biggest single betting events. However, the 2020 Grand National looks set to be that extra bit special as Tiger Roll looks to compete for a historic third successive victory.
Therefore, we want to provide some horse racing tips on a few of the other horses that we believe are going to be contenders, and their current odds.
Horses in the 2020 Grand National
Red Rum is a name etched into Grand National history. To date, he is the only horse to have won three Nationals. However, these were not in consecutive years (1973, 1974, 1977). Could Tiger Roll achieve something that has never been done in the 181-year history of the race? While we would love to witness that fairytale, as a punter there is little value betting on Tiger Roll ante-post.
Historically, a good marker for the Grand National has been the four-miler National Hunt Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham. In 2019, Le Breuil won, his trainer then indicated he will train for the sole purpose of challenging the next. Having proved himself over the distance, he is certainly one to consider at 40 to 1.
Our second pick, Elegant Escape, is currently 25 to 1 in the ante-post markets for the 2020 Grand National. This horse won the 2018 Welsh Grand National at Chepstow which shows he has the big race temperament. With that said, he came in 6th in 2019 but he was carrying top weight of 11st 12lb, and the ground was certainly more testing. If the stars align, and the going is right, we predict a strong race from Elegant Escape.
For our third pick, we have our eye on Any Second Now. Winning at the Cheltenham he looks set to be a strong contender in the National for years to come. Owned by J.P. McManus, there’s a strong chance Any Second Now will train specifically for the Aintree showpiece in April.
