Team Ireland to #WearGreenForJonty at WEG
Team Ireland are set to support the #WearGreenForJonty campaign as they appear at the World Equestrian Games (WEG) in North Carolina (11-23 September).
Irish Event team rider, Jonty Evans, remains unconscious after his fall during the cross-country phase at Tattersalls Horse Trials CIC3*. Evans’ fall off Cooley Rorkes Drift left him unconscious and with significant brain damage. Currently being cared for in Beaumont Hospital, Evans is reported to be in a stable but non-changing condition.
The news and severity of Evans’ injury sparked the campaign ‘#WearGreenForJonty’, where riders have been encouraged to wear an item of green whilst riding, in support of Evans and his family.
Eventing Worldwide are also selling polo shirts and wristbands. Profits from the sales are going to the David Foster’s Injured Riders Fund, the Evan’s family charity of choice, supporting injured riders and their families financially.
As the team who will represent Ireland at the World Equestrian Games was announced, Sally Corscadden, the Irish Team Manager took the time to praise the hard-work of the team. Corscadden also paid tribute and showed support for Evans and his family;
It has been the most successful start to the year for Team Ireland on the competition front, however the thoughts and prayers of all the team remain with Jonty Evans following his fall. He is always in our thoughts and we will be definitely ‘wearing green for Jonty’.”
