The Search for a Star classes with finals at HOYS include; hacks, hunters, working pony, working horses, riding horses, traditional gypsy cobs – of any colour, show cobs, and the longstanding SEIB Racehorse to Riding Horse final. Search for a Star qualifiers in the mountain and moorland classes, veteran horse or pony and part-bred traditional cob will head to Your Horse Live for their championships.

SEIB Marketing Manager, Nicolina MacKenzie said:

We have worked hard and benefited from the generosity and flexibility from plenty of different people to pull these dates and venues together within a really tight time-table. It is a first for Search for a Star to have back-to-back qualifiers, and we have worked with the Traditional of the Year Show (TOYS) and the Trailblazers Championship organising teams to hold our Search for a Star qualifiers the day before TOYS at Onley and during the Trailblazers Championship at Stoneleigh. This will help ensure that competitors can have as many competition opportunities as possible with a minimal amount of travelling. We are quietly excited to have the dates to look forward to and very much hope to get the series well-underway at Richmond on the 12th July.”

As there are two Search for a Star competitions on consecutive days and competitors are required to enter in advance, any competitor that has entered at both Onley Grounds and Stoneleigh and qualifies for either Your Horse Live or Horse of the Year Show at Onley Grounds will be eligible for a refund of their entry fee for classes at Stoneleigh.

To enable Search for a Star competitors to make the most of the opportunity offered by the new part-bred traditional cob class, any amateur owned and ridden, traditional part-bred type is encouraged to come forward for this class without having to register with any other organisation. This means that many competitors will have the chance to enter more than one Search for a Star qualifying class.

Search for a Star first took place back in 1996 and over the years has provided thousands of opportunities for amateur riders to compete at championship shows. Traditionally the highlight of Search for a Star is the opportunity to qualify and compete at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS). In recent years, in addition to the HOYS finals, Search for a Star now has championship classes in the main arena at Your Horse Live as well.

Search for a Star is purely for amateur riders and this rule is very strictly enforced. The ridden SEIB Horse of the Year Show Racehorse to Riding Horse class is open to professional and amateur riders. SEIB support ethical showing and testing for prohibited substances and tack inspections may take place. The Search for a Star full schedule including classes, times and rules will be released in due course.

Leading equine Insurance brokers, SEIB Insurance Brokers set up Search for a Star over 20 years ago so they could offer a unique competition opportunity to many of their amateur rider customers. SEIB has a long association with the showing world and is renowned for ‘putting something back’ by supporting many equestrian events and activities in addition to Search for a Star.
