Pippa Funnell withdraws from Badminton along with other top British rider
Another top name on the circuit has withdrawn from this years Badminton Horse Trials. Pippa Funnell announced the news following her injuries sustained while competing at Withington.
The British rider fell from Sandman 7 while competing at the Withington Manor Horse Trials on Sunday 1st May. Pippa was taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital and was kept in overnight for further monitoring.
The horse, Sandman 7, owned jointly by Pippa Funnell, Jenny and Ruth McMullen was checked over by the rider’s vet on site and was reported as well. The fall occurred at fence 16 during the cross country phase.
In a statement released via the official Badminton Horse Trials website, Pippa is said to have been devastated to withdraw as her horses were more than ready to compete at this weeks event.
With top contenders Pippa Funnell and William Fox-Pitt not in the running for the Badminton trophy this year, will this give a greater advantage to Grand Slam hopeful Michael Jung? You can keep up to date with the latest in Badminton action as our journalist, Amy Bennett, reports from the event alongside longstanding BE photographer Mike Bain. End of the day snippets and the full event report will be available via Everything Horse over the coming week.
Lets just hope the rain stays away….
