Fastorslow’s brilliant performance in the John Durkan at Punchestown on Sunday has seen a massive shake up in the 2024 Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Having been 12/1 to win the showpiece race at Prestbury Park next March on Sunday morning, BoyleSports, who offer the latest horse racing odds, now make the Martin Brassil-trained star 4/1 to bag one of the biggest prizes in the sport.
Fastorslow backed up his Punchestown Gold Cup win from last season on his 2023/24 bow, one again beating hot favourite Galopin Des Champs, just like he did back in April.
The Willie Mullins-trained superstar, a near foot-perfect winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2023, was sent off a red hot 1/2 favourite for the John Durkan but ended up a well-beaten third behind Fastorslow and stablemate Appreciate It.
Galopin Des Champs has drifted to 3/1 from 2/1 with BoyleSports but the seven-year-old retains favouritism for one of the biggest races of the year. Fastorslow is now joint-second favourite for the race at 4/1 with Gerri Colombe, a superb winner of the Champion Chase at Down Royal a fortnight ago, before a big gap to Shishkin at 14s and L’Homme Presse at 16s.
A spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Fastorslow’s superb win over Galopin des Champs at Punchestown has thrown the Gold Cup market wide open.
“Fastorslow has been cut to 4/1 from 12/1 to win one of the biggest prizes in racing. Galopin Des Champs has drifted slightly but he is still favourite to complete back-to-back wins at the Cheltenham Festival.”
