New Match Play Concept to take centre stage at 2022 Eventing Spring Carnival

A NEW innovative Match Play competition will take centre stage at this year’s The Eventing Spring Carnival – April 1 to 3 at Thoresby Park in Nottinghamshire.

This is a new team competition concept – The Lycetts Eventing Match Play – running across the Lycetts Grantham Cup 4* competition on the Sunday.

Two teams made up of Great Britain and the Rest of the World will compete for the honours with teams selected by Chris Bartle (GBR) and Sam Griffiths (RoWorld).

Competitors will ride head to head with their respective counterpart in the three phases adding excitement across the whole competition with both teams set to win prize money sponsored by Lycetts Insurance Brokers.

Said Stuart Buntine of organisers BEDE Events:

The countdown is really starting to build around the The Eventing Spring Carnival and The Lycetts Eventing Match Play is set to add to the drama as the Grantham Cup 4* comes to a close.

Each team will comprise of four riders with each corresponding team member competing against each other in all disciplines.

The team members will be drawn across the class, with first-team members near the beginning, second-team member running a quarter way through class, followed by third-team members and finally fourth team player near the end.

Points will be awarded after each discipline based on win, tie or lose with the winning score earning three points, equal scores receiving two points, and the losing score getting one point.

In the showjumping and cross-country sections clear inside the time is an equal score and at the end of the class the team with the most points wins.

Look out for the team draw which will take place on the evening prior to the dressage with the rider order submitted immediately following the team draw.
