International Tournament in Wiesbaden Cancelled
Telecomasia.net has learned that the organisers of one of the most famous international tournaments, held in Wiesbaden, Germany, have decided to cancel the competition. It is reported that the highly uncertain situation with coronavirus and EHV (Equine Herpes Virus) in the country is to blame.
The tournament was planned to be held from May 21 to May 24, 2021. It had to be cancelled primarily due to the poor predictions of epidemiologists regarding the spread of COVID-19. The EHV scenarios were just as disappointing as the threat of the virus in horses in Germany remains very high.
The aggressive strain of the EHV virus has forced the International Federation for Equestrian Sports to tighten the requirements for holding international competitions. The organizers of the tournament in Wiesbaden explain that, according to the new standards, it is mandatory to install a separate stable for keeping horses in quarantine. This requires a lot of space, which is not enough on the territory of the competition (they take place in the Biebrich Palace Park). The organizers said that the health safety of horses, riders and spectators is paramount for them, and today, COVID-19 and EHV can still threaten the well-being of tournament participants.
With over 80 years of history, CDI Wiesbaden is one of the oldest in the world. Before the coronavirus pandemic, the scenic Schlosspark Wiesbaden Biebrich park hosted an annual show jumping competition of the top class, as well as extraordinary dressage events by international professionals. About 70,000 spectators came to see all this. Here you could meet residents and German citizens from other cities, and horse racing enthusiasts from all over Europe and the world.
The competitions were organized and conducted at the highest level mainly through contracts with sponsors and funds from ticket sales. Recently, the tournament in Wiesbaden received the status of one of the most important stages of the renowned Global Champions Tour series.
The organisers of the competition, forced to cancel for the second year in a row, say that tickets that were purchased for 2020 and 2021 will continue to be valid in 2022. We hope there will be no further postponements of this wonderful tournament with a rich history.
Recall that EHV has suspended for one to several months or cancelled almost all major competitions in Europe this year. The International Federation for Equestrian Sports has stated that Europe is facing the largest epidemic of EHV-1 in decades in 2021.
