Five meetings take place across Britain and Ireland today, Wednesday 9 September, with Flat racing at Redcar, Carlisle, Cork and Kempton, alongside an afternoon National Hunt card at Sedgefield.
The first race is due off at Redcar at 1.21pm, while the day concludes under the lights at Kempton, where the final contest is scheduled for 8.30pm. Today’s racecards show 38 races across the five meetings.

Redcar
Redcar opens the day with an eight-race card on ground described as good, good to firm in places.
Kirton Angel is expected to start prominently in the market for the opening six-furlong novice stakes at 1.21pm. Richard Fahey’s filly finished third on her debut at York and now steps into calmer company.
Later on the card, course specialist Woodleigh is likely to attract attention in the 3.21pm handicap. The gelding is unbeaten in three previous appearances over the same course and distance.

Sedgefield
National Hunt racing comes from Sedgefield, where seven races are scheduled on ground described as good, good to firm in places.
The strongest market interest is likely to centre on Loriko in the 4.00pm handicap hurdle. He was priced at around 11/8 in the early forecast, ahead of Ladies Day at 2/1.
Loriko has enjoyed a productive summer, although the handicapper has responded to those recent victories. Glory And Honour is another contender worth noting, while Saint Polo and Pergamon are expected to head the market for the closing handicap hurdle at 5.05pm. The Sedgefield racecard identifies Pergamon as a leading contender following his recent progress over hurdles.

Carlisle
Carlisle stages a seven-race Flat card beginning at 2.12pm.
North Star Kodi is among the leading contenders for the nursery handicap at 2.42pm following two third-place finishes at Hamilton. The two-year-old makes his handicap debut from an opening mark of 70.
The later races may also produce competitive betting, with Zermatt Star expected to prove popular in the 4.47pm contest. One Night Thunder, winner of the corresponding race last year, returns for the 5.17pm finale from a lower handicap mark.

Cork
Cork supplies today’s Irish action with seven races on ground officially described as good.
The shortest-priced favourite of the day could be Marco Polo in the 4.40pm Coolmore Stud Gleneagles Irish EBF Maiden. Aidan O’Brien’s colt was a beaten favourite on his most recent appearance but is forecast at around 4/7 to get off the mark today.
The opening race at 4.10pm could see The Scallionator and Zoar dispute favouritism. Early forecasts had the pair at 11/8 and 15/8 respectively. The Cork racecard lists seven races running through to 7.15pm.

Kempton
The evening action comes from Kempton, where racing begins at 5.00pm on the all-weather track.
Viking Glory heads the early forecast for the opener at around 7/2 after winning at Brighton last month. Violet Goldsmith and The Bureau Club are also expected to feature prominently in the betting.
The Bureau Club has been dropped 5lb by the handicapper after shaping better than the result suggested at Chepstow. She has also been handed stall one for today’s one-mile contest. The Kempton betting forecast places Viking Glory at the head of an open market.
