Horse News From Around the World Today: 1 November 2026

British riders have enjoyed further international success this weekend, with Chloe Winchester winning in Spain and Charlotte Fry producing a promising Grand Prix performance with Nalegro in Belgium. Elsewhere, Martin Fuchs has claimed victory in Lyon, Ireland’s Ciaran Nallon has impressed in Morocco, and the eventing world has paid tribute to the remarkable Neville Bardos.

Chloe Winchester wins at Vejer as British riders continue strong form

Great Britain’s Chloe Winchester secured victory in Saturday’s CSI2* 1.35m competition at Vejer de la Frontera, partnering ABC Saving Grace to a clear second phase in 31.26 seconds. She also finished second in the CSI2* 1.30m aboard Tisara Quality Cruise, adding to an impressive week at the Andalucía October Tour.

There was further British success for Max Routledge, who finished third in the CSIO3* 1.50m Longines Ranking competition with nine-year-old stallion Me The Rebel R.T. Millie Allen also reached the podium, taking third in the CSIO3* 1.45m aboard Viarca PS.

The results follow Britain’s fifth-place finish in Friday’s Nations Cup, won by Ireland. Sunday’s €56,800 Andalucía Grand Prix, contested over 1.55m, brings the meeting to a close and offers the British contingent another opportunity to challenge for a major title.

Charlotte Fry and Nalegro impress on international Grand Prix debut

Britain’s Charlotte Fry finished second in Friday’s CDI3* Grand Prix Special at Opglabbeek, Belgium, scoring 69.256% aboard eight-year-old stallion Nalegro. The combination improved on their fourth-place finish in Thursday’s Grand Prix, where they scored 67.674%.

The black KWPN stallion, by Painted Black out of a Negro mare, is making the transition to international Grand Prix competition after progressing through the young-horse and Small Tour levels with Fry. Their latest result offers an encouraging indication of his potential as another top-level partner for the British rider.

Fry, who retained her individual World Championship title with Glamourdale at Aachen earlier this year, has established an impressive record of developing horses through the levels. Nalegro’s progress is particularly interesting as she looks to strengthen her Grand Prix string alongside her established championship partnerships.

Martin Fuchs claims Lyon Equita Masters with new partner

Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs won Saturday evening’s €105,500 Equita Masters at Lyon aboard Fave d’Authuit, an 11-year-old Selle Français gelding by Cornet Obolensky.

The victory was especially notable because the partnership is relatively new. Previously ridden by Canada’s Erynn Ballard, Fave d’Authuit competed at the World Championships in Aachen earlier this year before joining Fuchs, making Lyon their first five-star appearance together.

France’s Pénélope Leprévost finished second with Hileklaire Un Prince, while Ireland’s Mark McAuley took third aboard Clooney van Spalbeek.

Fuchs has an impressive record at Lyon, having won the venue’s FEI Jumping World Cup qualifier three consecutive times between 2021 and 2023. His latest victory highlights the potential of another horse in his international string ahead of Sunday’s €308,600 World Cup qualifier.

Britain’s Ben Maher and Jodie Hall McAteer are also competing at the French meeting, providing further British interest in the final day’s competition.

Ireland’s Ciaran Nallon takes major five-star victory in Rabat

Ireland’s Ciaran Nallon secured an impressive victory in Saturday’s €164,700 CSI5* 1.50m competition at the Longines Global Champions Tour in Rabat, Morocco, aboard Christians Carado.

First to compete in the 11-horse jump-off, Nallon produced a clear round in 39.65 seconds that none of his rivals could better. Italy’s Emanuele Gaudiano finished second with Nikolaj de Music, while Germany’s Christian Ahlmann completed the podium aboard Diamantino.

The result represents another important achievement for the young Irish rider, who has spent the season gaining five-star experience as Riesenbeck International’s under-25 competitor in the Global Champions League. The team has already secured the overall 2026 championship.

Sunday’s €612,100 Global Champions Tour Grand Prix concludes the regular season, with the remaining championship podium positions and qualification places for November’s Super Grand Prix in Verona still attracting considerable interest.

Eventing community remembers Neville Bardos and his remarkable comeback

The eventing world has paid tribute to Neville Bardos, the 27-year-old former racehorse whose extraordinary recovery from a devastating stable fire became one of the sport’s most memorable stories.

Purchased in Australia for just A$850 by Boyd Martin, Neville developed into an international eventer, finishing fourth at Kentucky in 2010 and representing the United States at the World Equestrian Games, where the pair placed tenth.

In 2011, Neville survived a catastrophic fire at True Prospect Farm in Pennsylvania. Despite serious injuries and weeks of veterinary treatment, he returned to competition later that year, finishing seventh at Britain’s Burghley Horse Trials.

His recovery earned widespread admiration and established him as a symbol of resilience within the eventing community. Neville spent his later years retired at Martin’s Pennsylvania farm before being put down following a decline in his health.

For British eventing followers, his performance at Burghley remains an extraordinary achievement, made all the more remarkable by the circumstances of his recovery.
