Equine Dentistry with New BSc (Hons) Equine Dental Science Degree

Hartpury University is pleased to announce the return of equine dentistry to its academic offerings, the BSc (Hons) Equine Dental Science Degree. And even better still, the course is now open for applications for the September 2024 intake.

This newly launched degree aims to nurture students into skilled Equine Dental Technicians, blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. A key highlight of the program is the inclusion of a placement with a mentor from the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT). The placement aims to provide students with invaluable real-world training opportunities to refine their skills in the field.

The curriculum is diverse and engaging, covering essential topics such as head and dental anatomy, dental examination, nutrition, dental pathology and diagnostics, routine dental procedures, and modules focusing on business management, sales, and customer service. This comprehensive blend of dentistry and commercial aspects equips students with the necessary skills to excel clinically and establish and manage their own practice.

Catherine Porter, Head of Equine at Hartpury University, expressed enthusiasm for the program, stating, “We’re thrilled to introduce our brand-new BSc (Hons) Equine Dental Science degree, which will not only address the demand for specialization in equine dental care but also empower students to make a profound impact in the field of equine health and welfare. We’re particularly excited about the balance between theoretical learning and practical on-the-job experience and the valuable placement with a BAEDT Equine Dental Mentor.”
