Eventing News :: Everything Horse
In yet another blow to equestrian sport, the team at Event Rider Masters (ERM) have announced the 2020 series has regrettably been cancelled due to the “risks associated with conducting the ERM series” in wake of the rapidly evolving coronavirus COVID-19.
The news came after a thorough risk assessment completed by the organisers of the Event Rider Masters and on recommendation from the relevant health authorities. In a statement released the ERM talked of the logistics required in running a multi-national production;
The ERM series is spread over 3 countries, all of who are currently affected by Covid-19 and involves a production team of 60 people travelling from 6 different countries. The ERM Riders throughout each season represent at least 20 different nations. The logistics of moving the multi-national production team from venue to venue is impossible to implement in a manner that has an acceptable risk level.”
Individual events where the ERM series is ran; Burnham Market, Chatsworth, Arville and Jardy are planning on running the original events.
The ERM series is a 2-day eventing spectacular held at individual equestrian events which riders compete at CCI4*S level. The initiative claims to have re-invented eventing, with all uniquely shortened 3 phases of competition streamed around the globe for all to enjoy. The 2020 prize money was expected to be £350,000 with a £50,000 prize fund per leg. A selection of the world best horse and rider combinations compete in the series each year, which was initially launched in 2016.
Safety comes first, so with the news comes an assurance that authorities and event organisers are acting only in the best interest of the staff, riders, grooms, spectators, retailers, and everyone else involved.
