Emily King Secures ‘Horse of a Lifetime’
written by Abby Dickinson
Emily King has secured her ‘horse of a lifetime’, after sending out a social media plea.
Emily King, the 4* event rider, sent out a plea last week (23rd May 2018) on her social media accounts for crowdfunding donations, toward the cost of 6 year-old Langford Take The Biscuit, otherwise known as ‘Hobby’. Due to Hobby’s owner relocating, the horse’s future was out of King’s hands unless owners or syndicate members were found to enable her to keep the ride.
‘Desperate to keep the ride’, King needed to raise £40,000 by the end of May, with a company already interested in the horse’s running costs. Donators were offered behind the scenes access to Hobby’s training and competitions, and cross-country course walks with King, herself.
King’s social media plea attracted 556 crowd funders in just 6 days. The £40,000 target was completed by 2 private investors, enabling King to keep the horse.
King thanked the generosity of the donators, describing them a ‘true credit’ to the sport. In an emotional social media post, announcing the completion of the £40,000 target, King credited her supporters;
‘You are the ones who keep our sport alive with so much enthusiasm… you drive us to work and train as hard as possible, to win medals and make our country proud. Without you, we are nothing.’
The ‘JustGiving’ crowdfunding page is still open for donations, money going toward Hobby’s running costs. Furthermore, 100% of Hobby’s earnings will be donated to charity.
