Ellen Whitaker has been hitting form once again during the 5th week of the Andalucia Sunshine Tour in Vejer De La Frontera, Spain on 8th March. Ellen secured the impressive win in the CSI5* 1.50m Ashford Farm Trophy, Longines Ranging speed class riding Korlenski.
Out of sixty nine entering combinations, only eighteen completed the course without fault. Ellen rode to triumph on the nine-year-old KWPN mare Korlenski (out of legendary stallion Coronet Oblensky) stopping the clock over a second faster than second-placed Turkish rider, Derin Demorsoy on the BWP gelding O-Kannorock (Rock n’ Roll Semilly x Cannon). Third place was won by French rider Marie Demonte with Epona de Quesnoy (Origin de Champs).
The starters were challenged by a 12 fence track where no other pair managed to match Ellen and Korlenski’s energy, which led them to a 1.41 second victory at 62.67 seconds. A plethora of other GBR riders came forward to tackle the course including eventual 8th-placed Phillip Miller on Don Royale and Simon Crippen riding Handsome in 10th.
Ellen also enjoyed success the day before (7/3/24) alongside uncle, John Whitaker in the Medium Tour 1.45m class. In what was an eighty five strong round, Ellen guided 11-year-old mare Conshira Blue PS (Cont hargos x Chacco Blue) into second, stopping the clock only 0.26 seconds behind winning combination, Sophia Westborg (SWE) on Alencia von Harry Z. John guided the 15-year- old, Sharid into third place.
