City Of Troy Could Be Set for Reappearance in Juddmonte International

The Juddmonte International at York is one of the highlights of the Flat season in the UK and this year’s race could see the impressive Derby winner City Of Troy make his reappearance. The Irish horse is being campaigned towards the Group One middle-distance contest.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien opted against running City Of Troy in the King George and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot to ensure his horse travels to York as fresh as possible. It will be his fourth assignment of the season.

Sandown Winner Bidding for Hat-Trick of Group One Victories

The son of US Triple Crown Winner Justify added a second Group One victory to his name in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown on his latest start. He is now 5/4 in the sports betting to bring up his hat-trick at York in the Juddmonte International.

Immediately after his Eclipse success, Paddy Power News reported that the star three-year-old will now drop down in distance for the York feature. It will be his first appearance over 1m2f, but, based on his breeding, he is expected to relish the new distance.

If everything goes to plan at York, O’Brien will then consider either the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in Paris or the Breeders’ Cup Championship at Del Mar, California, for his final run of the year. His owners have discussed the possibility of running on dirt in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, a race they have been desperate to win since they got involved in the sport.

Dante Winner Economics Set for York Return

Economics put down a strong marker at York in the Dante Stakes for one of the most impressive performances by a three-year-old this season when he blew his rivals away by six lengths. Unfortunately for his connections, he suffered a setback that ruled him out of Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood.

William Haggas has entered his new star in the Juddmonte International and he will be hoping the return to York will help his horse produce his best once again. The Dante Stakes winner is unbeaten in three starts so far in his career.

A clash between Economics and City Of Troy could be the highlight of the season in the UK. Both horses have shown a huge amount of potential, and the winner of this race may prove to be the best of their generation.

Calandagan to Make the Trip Across from France

As the name indicates, the Juddmonte International often attracts the best horses from outside of the UK and Ireland. This year, French runner Calandagan will be one of those horses who will feature.

The son of Gleneagles proved his class at Royal Ascot earlier this season when he won the King Edward VII Stakes. As reported by ITV, he scored in that Group Two contest by six lengths in what was one of the most dominant performances at the royal meeting. This will now be his toughest test yet as he bids for his fourth straight success on the track.

The 2024 Juddmonte International takes place on the 21st of August on day one of the Ebor Festival.
