Eventing News :: Everything Horse
  • British Eventing Team Challenge launches following successful pilot season
  • Riders now able to choose own groups following feedback
  • Day passes available for qualifiers

British Eventing has announced the full details of a new team competition, British Eventing Team Challenge, for adult riders at BE80(T) and BE90 Open level for the 2020 season. Teams that will take part will have the opportunity to compete in any of the ten Team Challenge Qualifiers, to win a place at the Team Challenge Championship.

As a result of the feedback from the 2019 pilot scheme, and in conjunction with the Rider Working Groups, the 2020 Team Challenge launches with some exciting changes.  The season sees the introduction of Team Challenge Qualifiers AND the opportunity that allows riders to select their own teams, of up to four. The Team Challenges are set to take place between June and August this year. The winning team at each Qualifier takes a spot at the Team Challenge Championship, held at Weston Park on October, 2nd 2020.

Olivia Szajna, Head of Marketing, Communications and Commercial commented;

Last year’s Regional Team competition, supported by Rowen Barbary, was brilliant and the riders that took part thoroughly enjoyed the competition at Weston Park. The overwhelming feedback last year from our eventing community was that they would love the opportunity to take part with their friends in self-selected teams, and that the eligibility criteria should be relaxed. We have taken this feedback on board with the aim of giving more members the chance to experience this new team competition opportunity.

To compete in the British Eventing Team Challenge, riders must be a member of BE, however, day passes are available to get a taster for what’s going on. Competitors are able to compete on a day pass for the qualifier days, however, will need to be a full member for the Championship.

British Eventing (BE) is the National Governing Body for the sport in Great Britain and is a sport that engages all ages and has equal opportunities to compete – being one of the very few Olympic disciplines where men and women competed on completely equal terms. BE provides competition for riders at the grassroots of the sport to those performing at international level. BE not only regulates competition, but it also schedules more than 180 events throughout Britain that cater to nearly 94,000 entries per season and currently has over 15,000 members!
