British Equestrian Launches E-Learning Resource for Equestrian Establishments

British Equestrian has launched its first e-learning resource to help equestrian businesses become more robust and viable. This initiative, funded through Sport England’s Together Fund and developed in partnership with Sport Structures, aims to assist establishments in planning for unexpected circumstances and producing strategies for long-term sustainability. This new resource complements the existing training materials provided by British Equestrian’s member bodies.

Insights from British Equestrian’s Health of Riding Establishments research and consultations with individual centres have highlighted the vulnerability of equestrian establishments. A significant area of concern is succession planning, which is crucial for the longevity of any business. The first online training modules address this vital subject, emphasizing its importance at a time when many equestrian centres are operating at full capacity with long waiting lists.

The newly developed e-learning modules are designed to support establishments in creating effective succession plans. Jemima Morris, Together Fund Project Manager at British Equestrian, commented, “British Equestrian has consulted with many equestrian centres who have been worried about the future of their businesses, whether that is due to rising costs, lack of workforce, or unforeseen circumstances. It’s exciting to be able to provide support for all establishments to access and hopefully allow them to plan for the future and keep our equestrian community thriving, and ultimately safeguard equestrianism for more people to enjoy and participate in the future. We’re actively looking to develop further modules in key areas to bring online in the future.”

The three modules, each lasting under 30 minutes, include:

  • An Introduction to Succession Planning: Provides an overview of succession planning and explains why a succession plan is important.
  • Governance and Legal Structures: Explores different governance and legal structures to consider for the future of riding establishments.
  • People: Highlights the importance of having the right people with the right skills to ensure the long-term success of a riding establishment.

These modules are available on British Equestrian’s website in the Workforce section. To access the training, learners need to register for free on the Training Hub. Once logged in, the training will be visible.

British Equestrian extends its gratitude to Sport England for the funding and to Sport Structures for their support in creating this valuable resource.
