2023 brings an exciting new weekend format for the Longines Global Champions Tour show schedules. The 16-event series is committed to developing the sport in the modern era by continuing rapid and exciting growth for LGCT and GCL and attracting new audiences to show jumping.
The biggest change will see Round 1 and Round 2 of the GCL team series now take place on the same day instead of across two days as previously seen.
In addition, each weekend in the 2023 series will see the top 40 riders qualify for the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix giving more top riders the chance to take part in the big showdown. New for next year the LGCT Grand Prix will be held on a different day from GCL at every event.
Sports Director of LGCT & GCL Marco Danese explained:
We are always looking for ways to strengthen Global Champions, and have worked on a new format that benefits horses, riders and spectators alike, which is set to launch in 2023.
Having both rounds of the GCL on the same day with all scores counting allows strategies for horse and riders to come into play over the weekend even more than previous, with an added benefit of making it really easy for the public to follow.”
Today’s announcement accelerates the excitement that builds for the new season as the world’s most dynamic show jumping series continues to launch huge new projects and innovations to keep the sport pushing forward in all areas including a significant increase in prize money for 2023.
Stay tuned for the new GCL team line-ups which will be revealed in the upcoming weeks for the 2023 GCL championship as fans across the world get ready for the start of another epic season!
Please note this does change the day on which GCL class and the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix will be held at each event so please check the schedule carefully before purchasing tickets.
