The 77th running of the MARS Badminton Horse Trials will see a major prize-money boost in 2026, with £125,000 heading to the winner.
Organisers say the increase makes Badminton’s top prize the largest in the sport of eventing, with the overall prize fund for the top 20 finishers rising to £451,500.
What was the top prize in 2024 and 2025?
The uplift for 2026 follows strong prize-money levels in recent years.
In 2024, the winner’s cheque was £117,600. The title was won by Oliver Townend riding Ballaghmor Class.
In 2025, the same £117,600 first prize was on offer again, with Ros Canter taking the win aboard Lordships Graffalo.
Defending champion Ros Canter said: “This is fantastic news. Badminton is the horse trials that everyone in the world has heard of and is the one we all desperately want to win. I can’t wait to come back and try again.”
MARS Badminton Horse Trials Director Jane Tuckwell added: “We are delighted to have been able to raise the prize-money levels for what promises to be another excellent and thrilling competition. Last year was of such a high standard so we are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back for what promises to be another great weekend of sport. Perhaps we will even see the future world champion in action!”
Grassroots prize money also increased
The LeMieux Grassroots Championships for British Eventing 100 and 90 horses take place on Wednesday, 6 May, and prize money for both sections will be increased.
Tickets: no on-the-gate admission
The Box Office for the 2026 MARS Badminton Horse Trials is now open, with an early-bird booking discount. As in previous years, there will be no admission available on the gate, including on cross-country day. Spectators can buy tickets in advance via the official box office.
