Badminton Horse Trials 2021 to Run Behind Closed Doors

  • Badminton Horse Trials 2021 to run behind closed doors with the possibility of a number of limited spectator tickets to be made available

Organisers of the 2021 Badminton Horse Trials have regrettably announced that they will run the event behind closed doors.

The news will no doubt act as yet another blow to the industries economical climate, aside from being a huge disappointment to many eventing fans. However, with the current pandemic persisting and many large scale equestrian events suffering cancellation – the 2021 event going ahead offers a window of opportunity for Eventing sporting action to continue, whilst providing hope for resolve to all.

The decision has been carefully considered by the events organisers and other stakeholders, with the health and safety of all being paramount in any case. The possibility of a limited number of allocated spaces becoming available should restrictions/guidelines allow so, has been confirmed.

Badminton’s protocols will be under constant review in the coming months, with the team promising to keep supporters and the eventing community posted with the latest news and developments via the Director’s blog, social media and the website.

Event Director Jane Tuckwell said

We realise that this is not the scenario everyone would wish for but feel by announcing our intentions now it will give all involved in whatever capacity the opportunity to plan accordingly.  To deliver the “Behind Closed Doors” event will not be without its challenges, but we look forward to bringing you a great competition in partnership with Science Supplements and Mars Equestrian”.

William Fox-Pitt MBE, a dual Badminton winner, commented

It is fantastic news that Badminton is planning to run next season in these challenging circumstances. To lose this prestigious event again would be a terrible disappointment and the eventing world will get behind Jane and her team to make this happen.   For sure it will be a very different Badminton”.

A live stream will be made available throughout the competition.
