Bettina Hoy (GER) flew through the first round of dressage at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials today. On board the 12-year-old gelding, Designer 10, the pair set quite a precedent with a score to beat of 34.5!
The only rider to come close to the rather staggering Hoy score, was Australian rider Bill Levett on board the 2004 gelding, Improvise, with a respectable 42.5.
British rider Paul Sims riding the 16.3hh gelding Glengarnock, lies in third place overnight finishing on 46.6. No stranger to the circuit the Sims/Glengarnock partnership goes way back where the pair have enjoyed several 4* track runs during their time together.
With plenty of room for a good shake up of the leaderboard, Friday’s dressage will see British favourites Ben Hobday on board Ramilo, Oliver Townend riding Samuel Thomas II and Kristina Cook with Star Witness. The dressage starts at 9.30am and will be available to view via Burghley.tv.
