The Mare and Foal Sanctuary has been overwhelmed by the generosity of crowdfunding supporters who have, in a matter of weeks, helped raise half the required funds for a much needed horsebox for the charity. With a target of £35,000, the charity will to soon be able to buy a reliable horsebox which will be used to transport equines who’ve been abused, neglected or abandoned, to safety. The ambitious Horsebox Crowdfunder was set up in July, 2024 and so far, kind supporters have already donated more than half of the total needed. A special equine training clinic for vets, hosted by The Mare and Foal Sanctuary in Devon, has provided a unique opportunity to learn valuable field surgery and anaesthesia skills on semi-feral ponies. Events like this rarely happen in the UK. The specialist clinic, organised by the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), enabled vets to demonstrate castration techniques in the field, rather than an operating theatre. It’s a valuable professional skill and greatly improves the future of colts who, uncastrated, are often difficult to find homes for.
