Horse Owners Invited to Share Their Views for Strangles Awareness Week 2025
Strangles Awareness Week: 5–11 May 2025
Horse owners are being encouraged to take part in a new survey to share their experiences and opinions on strangles, one of the most common and contagious equine diseases.
The survey, organised by Dechra as part of the Strangles Awareness Week 2025 campaign, aims to gather insights into owners’ understanding of the disease, attitudes towards prevention, and the measures currently being used to reduce the risk of outbreaks.
Strangles Awareness Week, which runs from 5 to 11 May 2025, seeks to highlight best practices in biosecurity and promote greater awareness of how to stop the spread of infection. Dechra, one of the key collaborators behind the initiative, is using the survey results to help shape future support and educational resources for horse owners.
The short online survey takes approximately three minutes to complete and includes questions about owners’ experiences with strangles, preventative strategies, and views on vaccination. As an added incentive, all completed entries will be entered into a prize draw to win two VIP tickets to Your Horse Live 2025.
“The strangles survey will provide us with a valuable insight into horse owners’ experiences of the disease and will enable us to identify any trends that may exist to help us support owners who wish to put in place preventative measures to help prevent strangles,” said Rachel Harrison-Osborne, veterinary surgeon and equine field support manager at Dechra.
