Barbury International Horse Trials, 7 – 10th July 2016

Meet the ‘seven Wonders of Wiltshire’; that’s Event riders, Tim Price (NZ), Astier Nicolas (FR), Rebecca Howard (CAN), Sir Mark Todd (NZ), Flora Harris (GB), Jonelle Price (NZ) and Andrew Nicholson (NZ).   They are pictured at the ‘Avebury fence’, one of the signature jumps at Barbury International Horse Trials.  The seven will all be competing at Barbury’s equestrian spectacular, located on the beautiful Marlborough Downs, Wiltshire.

All of the above are either decorated Olympian’s or high performance athletes. They have been selected to represent or are long listed for their country at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the sport of Eventing.  Furthermore, their stables and where they train from are all based in Wiltshire within a 15 mile radius of the Barbury Castle Estate. The estate is home to the Barbury International Horse Trials in just under two week’s time.

Nigel Bunter, owner of the Barbury Castle Estate and event Chairman commented;

“In just under two week’s time over 1000 horse and rider combinations, featuring Rio hopefuls, will be competing here at Barbury. Nowhere in the UK and probably the world compares with the number of world class event riders that are based within a 15 mile radius of Barbury Castle. We are really looking forward to welcoming them all here to their local event “.

The Barbury International Horse Trials is an important pre-cursor ahead of the 2016 Olympics with many riders destined for Rio taking part.  A new addition this year is the third leg of the Event Rider Masters (ERM). The inaugural ERM is an exciting sporting series, showcasing the world’s best ‘Event’ riders. A total of £350,000 in prize money is on offer with each leg promising a minimum of £50,000.
