Our review

The rug really does give you the feeling that your horse is completely protected. From head to toe, the horse is covered in a super lightweight, soft, and flexible mesh infused with Vamoose fly repellent. The neck, shoulder, and tail flap are lined with a silky material to assist in preventing rubbing.

The tail cover is extra long, almost reaching the horse’s hocks, and the triple belly fastening belt covers all of your horse’s barrel. The detachable neck cover is a generous length and offers plenty of space for horses with a heavier set neck.

We trialled the rug on a Warmblood x Thoroughbred mare and found it to fit adequately in the four key areas:

• Kneck
• Barrel
• Length
• Legs

The horse was monitored in the field whilst wearing the rug over a series of a few days and we noted:

• The horse was more settled compared to another horse in the same field and others in surrounding paddocks
• Leg stamping and tail swishing was dramatically reduced
• The rug moved with the horse due to the cutaway leg arches and overall shape
• When the horse rolled the rug had stayed in place
• Surcingles and other attachments didn’t come undone during the entire period

We left the rug on for two days to test the ‘next to skin’ impact. There was no adjustment needed each day as the rug had stayed in place. We did check under the rug each time and on removal, the horse had no scuffing/rubbing marks over the shoulder or any other area.

The matching fly hood

Although there seems like a lot of material, the rug is easy to put on. The double clip v-front fastening, with velcro, makes it easy to fasten up which we found handy, especially as our horse is still young and still fidgets.

The cost of the rug is considered top end, however, due to the durability and complete coverage costs will be recouped when not having to purchase as many fly repellents. When searching for, prices can vary, but Amazon has a range of rug sizes at competitive prices.
