Ludger Beerbaum Suffers Bad Fall Requiring Surgery

Four times Olympic Gold medalist and former FEI ranked World number 1, Ludger Beerbaum, suffered a bad fall from his horse on Saturday whilst competing in the Longines FEI World Cup qualifier class in Mechelen, Belgium.

Seen in the YouTube snippet here, the horse seemed to be clipping a couple of the fences before flattening out over a jump, where Beerbaum fell off just ahead of the next fence. Although the rider seemed to initially be only a little stunned, he was soon joined by medical assistance and has since required surgery to repair a multiple open fracture in his upper arm.

The following post has been updated on the rider’s Facebook page

We wish him a speedy recovery.
