The Longines Global Champions Tour has announced a new addition to its international calendar, with Cairo confirmed as the host of a major new event set against the backdrop of the Pyramids of Giza.
The announcement was made during a high-profile press conference in the Egyptian capital, attended by senior government officials, sporting leaders and cultural representatives, marking a significant moment for the expansion of top-level showjumping in the region.
Among those present were Egypt’s Prime Minister, Dr Mostafa Madbouly, and Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, Head of the Egyptian Military Academy, both of whom addressed attendees and welcomed the Tour to Egypt. Representatives from national sporting bodies, including the Egyptian Equestrian Federation, were also in attendance alongside figures from international sport and culture.
The event will see the Longines Global Champions Tour compete at one of the most recognisable heritage sites in the world, with organisers confirming a five-year agreement for the Cairo fixture.
Speaking at the launch, Tour President and Founder Jan Tops described the move as both a sporting and cultural milestone.
“To be jumping in front of the Pyramids — one of the most iconic and historic landmarks in the world — is not just a sporting moment, but a cultural one,” he said. “It reflects what this Tour represents: innovation, ambition and the ability to bring world-class sport to extraordinary settings.”
The Cairo leg further underlines the Tour’s ongoing global expansion, introducing elite showjumping to new audiences and reinforcing its presence in the Middle East. Organisers highlighted the importance of collaboration with local institutions and international partners in bringing the event to fruition.
The Longines Global Champions Tour has grown into one of the sport’s most prestigious series, attracting the world’s leading riders, teams and horses to venues across Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East.
