Kilmarnock Horse & Donkey Rescue will welcome the public to their West Sussex sanctuary on Sunday 28 September 2025 for a special Open Day & Fun Dog Show, combining family entertainment with vital fundraising for rescued equines.

The charity-run event at Old Pound Cottage on Rusper Road promises a heartwarming day out whilst supporting the ongoing care of horses, donkeys and ponies who have found sanctuary at the rescue centre.

Gates Open for Family Fun and Fundraising

Gates open at 12:30 PM for what organisers describe as their biggest fundraising and awareness event of the year. The carefully planned programme offers something for every member of the family, from animal lovers to competitive dog owners.

Fun Dog Show Takes Centre Stage

The highlight Fun Dog Show begins at 1:00 PM, featuring an entertaining range of classes designed to celebrate dogs of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds:

  • Best Puppy – showcasing the next generation of canine companions
  • Best Rescue – honouring dogs who have found their forever homes
  • Junior Handler – encouraging young people’s involvement with animals
  • Best Trick – demonstrating the special bond between dogs and their owners
  • Plus additional classes with rosettes and prizes for all winners

Carly Saward, organiser and trustee, explained the event’s significance: “Our Open Day is our biggest fundraising and awareness event of the year. It’s a wonderful chance for the community to come and meet our animals, support local businesses and enjoy a really fun day out – all while helping rescue animals in need.”

Admission costs just £3 for adults and £2 for children, with all proceeds going directly to the care of rescued equines and other animals at the sanctuary.
