The College of West Anglia’s Cambridge campus is celebrating a landmark result after the Cambridge University Equestrian Team (CUET) delivered a record-breaking performance at the latest British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competition. Competing against Oxford Blues and Canterbury, the Cambridge First Team (Blues) finished first overall with a flawless team score of zero—an extraordinary achievement in university equestrian sport.
In a clean sweep, Cambridge riders secured 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places, dominating the BUCS Equestrian Championship podium. The triumphant team featured Rachel Jackson (CUET Captain), India Rogers, Mary Woodfear, and Tilly Leathart, with Jackson securing her first individual BUCS win after eight years of dedication and competition.
While all riders are University of Cambridge students, the College of West Anglia’s Cambridge campus has played a pivotal role in the team’s ongoing success. The campus provides expert coaching to CUET teams and hosts their home BUCS matches at its Cambridge Equestrian Centre. This year, the College has also been chosen to host the BUCS regional championships, a testament to the centre’s exceptional facilities and coaching expertise.
A Hub of Equestrian Excellence
The Cambridge Equestrian Centre, part of the College of West Anglia’s Cambridge campus, is increasingly recognised as a leading regional hub for equestrian sport, blending professional-standard facilities with experienced coaching to support university-level competition.
Emma Pewter, Programme Manager for Equine and Dog Grooming at the College of West Anglia’s Cambridge campus and Head Coach for CUET, said:
“To finish on a team score of zero and secure all four top individual placings is an exceptional achievement at BUCS level. The riders showed outstanding consistency and teamwork across both dressage and showjumping. We are incredibly proud to support CUET through our coaching and facilities, and this result reflects the strength of that partnership.”

“We feel incredibly privileged to train at the College of West Anglia’s Cambridge campus, which is one of the strongest BUCS venues in the UK. We benefit hugely from the coaching we receive from Emma Pewter and Kate Newstead, and from the quality of the horses at the Cambridge yard, which allows us to perform to the best of our ability. Winning on a team score of zero and securing all four individual placings is a huge achievement for us. The matches run seamlessly thanks to the staff and student helpers at the Equestrian Centre, and we’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”
