Burgham Boasts Three Days of Cross-Country for 2021

Burgham International Horse Trials (28 July-1 August) have announced they will offer more to competitors and spectators than ever before with three consecutive days of cross-country action for the first time.

The biggest equestrian event in the North of England, highly popular with riders from Olympic level to grassroots, will commence with two days of international dressage on Wednesday 28 July and Thursday 29 July. Then the fun really starts, with cross-country and showjumping for the three international classes – CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S and CCI2*-S – on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (30 July-1 August). National classes from Open Intermediate to BE90 will also take place on Saturday and Sunday, alongside British Riding Clubs competitions.

Burgham’s cross-country courses are designed by David Evans, cross-country course-builder for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, and always prove to be an excellent but fair test of horse and rider.

Burgham was the first international horse trials to take place in 2020, albeit behind closed doors, and riders and owners were very grateful for the efforts the organising team went to to stage the event safely and professionally. It is hoped and expected that spectators will be allowed to attend the 2021 event to enjoy the top-level sport, varied trade stands and wide variety of locally-sourced food options and public bars.

Burgham’s event director Martyn Johnson said:

We are always striving to make Burgham better in every way we can, and we are delighted that British Eventing [the national governing body of the sport] has given us this extra day of cross-country. Burgham is well-established as one of the country’s most popular horse trials with a uniquely friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and we can’t wait for the public to be able to share it with us again this year.”

The cross-country at Burgham will be once again be shown live on Horse & Country’s streaming service, H&C+.

Tickets will go on sale shortly via the website, www.burghaminternationalhorsetrials.co.uk.
