Television favourites Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash have welcomed two rescued miniature Shetland ponies into their family after becoming Redwings Guardians, helping shine a spotlight on equine welfare and the importance of rehoming rescued horses and ponies. The couple recently completed Redwings Horse Sanctuary’s Guardianship assessment process before welcoming 19-year-old Thumbelina and six-year-old Mermaid to their home. Their journey has been shared with millions of followers on social media, supporting Redwings’ mission to encourage more people to consider offering rescued equines a second chance. Redwings Closures Threaten Equine Welfare and Staff Jobs
Redwings Horse Sanctuary has announced the start of a consultation that could lead to the closure of its Mountains (Forfar, Angus) and Oxhill (Warwickshire) visitor centres. If the closures proceed, the animals, including the much-loved Adoption Stars, will be relocated to Norfolk. The closures are not a reflection on staff commitment, but the result of rising costs that have made the current situation unsustainable. Redwings’ Legacy Manager, Katie Fulcher, has been awarded a Smee & Ford Legacy Giving Award, recognising and celebrating outstanding achievement and skill in the sector. Katie, who celebrated 10 years at Redwings last year, was announced as the winner of the Legacy Administrator of the Year Award at a private ceremony at Hilton Bankside, London on the 18th April 2024 after being nominated by her colleagues at the biggest horse welfare charity in the UK. Redwings Horse Sanctuary has launched its Christmas animation for 2023, which celebrates the life and legacy of Black Beauty author Anna Sewell, with a voiceover by Dame Joanna Lumley. Redwings releases footage of horses distressed by fireworks
Redwings Horse Sanctuary is releasing video footage (Below) showing the effects of fireworks on some of their residents taken yesterday (Bonfire Night, Sunday 5th November). Last week the largest horse welfare charity in the UK urged people to contact their local MP to ask for a review of fireworks legislation and the impact they have on animals.
